Homemade Hummus

I am a BIG fan of hummus, but a lot of the brands in the grocery store are packed with artificial ingredients or added sugars.  I got a Food Processor for Christmas and finally decided to break it open and put it to use!  I will say...this is super easy and my Food Processor will definitely be getting put to good use!

Tahini - Ground sesame seeds

Ingredients:
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans chickpeas, drained and rinsed
    • *You can use white beans too for lower fat and calories
  • Lemon juice to taste
  • 1/2 cup Tahini (ground sesame seeds)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 clove of fresh garlic
  • Water (optional) – just enough to get the right consistency
  • Paprika/Ground Red Pepper/Old Bay to taste
    • I put Old Bay on everything!!!
  • *You can add roasted red peppers, sun dried tomatoes, or a variety of other things!  Here is a good list of add-ins!

Directions:
  1. Place all ingredients in your food processor and blend until smooth.
  2. Enjoy with your favorite veggies or homemade pita chips.

Note:  If your hummus is too thick, add either more lemon juice or a little water to loosen it up.
I also sprinkle paprika and Old Bay on top!
(Makes 3 cups or 12 servings)
