The 21 Day Fix became available on
February 3rd and to say that it was a hit is definitely an
understatement. In a matter of days, the program sold out and became
available through pre-order only!!! How crazy is that?! That’s a pretty good problem to have if you
ask me…it means people are interested!
What's the reason for this huge
phenomenon? Perhaps it's one of the following:
- 30 minute workouts
- Detailed nutritional plan
- No counting calories, carbs or points
- Incorporation of dessert and wine (yes,
please!)
- Affordability
- Accountability
Yes, I would say all of those
reasons make it a pretty dang desirable program! As soon as I received
the package I tore into the box and had to look at the sizes of the portion
control food containers. At first, yes,
my mood was deflated because I thought the containers were too small for a girl
who typically eats for 4 (hmm…problem, perhaps?). HOWEVER, I then opened the Meal Plan Guide
and started to read, which I have the tendency not to read literature that
comes with things, and my spirits were immediately lifted because I saw the
break down and realized you were to have multiple of some of the colored
containers throughout the day depending on your caloric needs. Whew. The Calorie Chart makes it really
easy to determine how many portions of each food group you will eat. The
food groups are then portioned into the containers (hence the color coordinated
for easy portion control). Nice! Guesswork in how much I needed to
eat was out the door! Hmmm...I wonder what
container my Quest bars can squeeze into! :)
BUT WAIT, DO I HAVE
TO BREAK-UP WITH SHAUN T AND JOEL???
I have always been a high intensity, high impact workout
lover, which pretty much explains my love for sports and the need to be drenched
in sweat in order to have had a good workout.
So when the 21 Day Fix came out, at first, I will admit, I was very
skeptical. I decided however, to give it
a try because so what it was for 21 days…big deal. I purchased the program and was actually
excited about the portion control aspect because I usually just go with the
flow and struggle with that tremendously.
Even though I eat clean and healthy, you can still over-eat those types
of foods too! I swear by Shaun T with INSANITY
and T25 and with the LES MILLS family and their PUMP workout, so I am always
hesitant to let anyone else into our “inner circle.”
I decided to put those guys away for 21 days to truly see
how successful I can be with the program.
It is going to be hard, but I may slip up once or twice and break them
out on a day where I have more time and just want to see their lovely
faces! The best part is, is that I can
incorporate the eating plan after the 21 days and pretty much forever and I now
have these programs in my name and I can add these 21 Day Fix workouts into my
normal routine until the end of time.
Boom…mind blown.
DAY 1..Monday (CUE LAW AND ORDER MUSIC) – I actually have not
been feeling up to par lately with a lot of extra unnecessary crap on my plate dragging
me down so I decided to sleep in the extra hour in the morning and do my workout
after work. I don’t know why I do this
because I end up being a B!t$% on wheel s without that AM workout. My whole day gets thrown out of whack. Whatever, deal with it. I needed the sleep and there are worse things
going on out there in the world than me postponing my AM workout. (Note
to others: Don’t be so quick to judge
people when YOU HAVE NO IDEA what it is that they deal with on a daily
basis.) My Milly also hasn’t been
feeling well either which adds another thing to my list and on my mind to worry
about.
OK, back on track…day 1. I usually do my meal plans on Sundays, but with a messed up weekend and things getting out of control, I did not have time or even the energy. Hey, life happens, suck it up and walk it off! (As my parents always said…except when I had really had a broken leg, then when I tried to run it off up and down the court, it didn’t work so well…lesson learned.) I knew mentally how I was going to do the first few days with my eating and then I decided I would come up with a meal plan and get it down on paper as I went. I had already determined my caloric intake target and how many calories I was going to need each day and with the color-coded containers I was off and running and felt very organized, which I like. DUN DUN DUN!! Workout time…..Total Body Cardio Fix….wow. Well, I was sweating and I enjoyed it. It was a nice change of pace and only 30 minutes…a very quick 30 minutes I might add! I really liked incorporating the weights into the moves as I missed my PUMP crew for my normal Monday weights routine. I am happy to report that I really enjoyed workout #1 and will continue onto day 2!
TODAY – TUESDAY – DAY 2 – I woke up with a migraine and
decided to sleep in that extra hour…again… and save the workout for after
work…again. UGH…! I told myself I was going to try VERY HARD
and keep my mood in check today. It is
not like me at all to do this 2 days in a row.
I do know that I don’t get enough iron which causes my fatigue so with
the 21 Day Fix eating plan, I am excited to start getting that under control. I also felt my abs burning today at work when
I laughed or sneezed and that is always a good sign! So today’s workout was Upper Fix. I just finished a little while ago since I
saved it for after work hours and the verdict is…I like it, I love it, I want some more of it! I like the variety and the change from what I have been doing. It gives me a healthy mix of different exercises and WOW are my arms and abs burning!

The 2 #SWEATINGFORKATY pic!! Such an inspiration!! |
What I have learned (or remembered) after these first 2
days and a few thoughts:
- Don’t knock it until you try it.
- I get very excited and am at ease when things are organized and spelled out for me.
- I can still get enough food with following the plan because the foods that I need to eat and are recommended are good for me and fill me up.
- Just because you aren’t drenched in sweat doesn’t mean you didn’t get a good workout in.
- I am going to try very very hard to get up in the morning again after these past 2 days of doing it in the PM because it has been a few years since I have done my workouts in the PM and I don’t like it.
- Don’t let other people steal your joy. Only you can control your happiness.
- When Milly hurts, I hurt.
- Tomorrow is another day and I will continue to get MY FIX on!
